The interdisciplinary Facility and Sustainable Building Management program meets industry standards for training qualified facility management professionals. Students will receive comprehensive education and hands-on work experience. The curriculum covers the multifaceted responsibilities of facility managers, including their diverse roles, fundamentals of building operations and maintenance, sustainable building practices, and workplace management. According to the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), the average age of current facility managers exceeds 49 years. IFMA projects that 30-50% of practicing professionals will retire within the coming decade, creating a significant workforce shortage. This impending gap highlights the growing demand for younger, well-trained facility management experts. IFMA has partnered with California community colleges to address this need. The Facility and Sustainable Building Management program equips students for careers in various fields including sustainable construction, space utilization, environmental safety, energy conservation, green landscaping, real estate, property administration, human resources, and business-related roles like marketing, sales, and finance.
