MA in Comparative Literature in Hanover United States | Dartmouth College

For more than two decades, Dartmouth's Comparative Literature Program has served as an inclusive, enriching, and thought-provoking environment for exploring literature and culture across boundaries. With an intentionally small cohort of 10-12 students, our program benefits from over twenty-five faculty members—some core to the program and others from diverse humanities departments—who provide the mentorship that defines our reputation. Students gain from Dartmouth's world-class language instruction, exceptional library collections (including rare materials), and robust interlibrary loan system. A dedicated librarian teaches within the program, guiding students in research development and resource navigation. The Director of Graduate Studies works closely with each student to craft personalized academic plans while addressing their questions throughout the year. Our curriculum blends theoretical and methodological coursework with practical pedagogical training, helping students refine their scholarly interests while discovering new dimensions of their intellectual identity. Graduates pursue paths ranging from advanced degrees to careers beyond academia, supported by our application assistance and professional development workshops that illuminate career possibilities in comparative literary studies. We're particularly proud of our equitable funding model and the strong bonds of collaboration we cultivate within each student cohort.
