Pursuing an Asian studies degree provides comprehensive education in the languages, literature, religions, and cultural traditions of East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The curriculum spans various social science and humanities disciplines. This department specializes in teaching Asian languages, literary traditions, belief systems, cultural practices, and historical thought, standing among the rare U.S. academic departments that cover social sciences, humanities, and language studies across all three Asian regions: East Asia (including China, Japan, Korea), Southeast Asia (encompassing Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, The Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore), and South Asia (covering India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh). The program emphasizes analyzing social structures, political systems, and cultural developments that cross conventional national and regional borders.
Students completing their high school during the 2021-22 academic year or if they've graduated from high school but have earned fewer than 12 credits at a college or university are eligible for admission as first year students.
TOEFL - Score of 100 and above (Internet-based exam); 70 and above on the PTE Academic; IELTS - Score of 7.5.
