The University of New Orleans' Asian Studies programs are managed through the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies Program (BAIS) within the College of Liberal Arts. These programs provide diverse courses in languages, literature, history, philosophy, art, and social sciences designed to familiarize students with both contemporary and historical aspects of Asian societies and traditions. The curriculum aims to provide students with foundational knowledge about this significant global region.
BAIS participants can specialize in Asian Studies or complement their studies with an interdisciplinary minor in this field.
International Studies majors have the option to focus on Asian Studies within their program. This concentration takes an interdisciplinary perspective on Asia's diverse regions, cultures, and historical developments. After completing this specialization, students will have gained proficiency in at least one Asian language and developed expertise in discussing the cultural, political, and economic significance of the region. When paired with an International Studies degree, this specialization equips graduates for professional opportunities in diplomacy, global commerce, international education, and various governmental and non-governmental organizations.
