Philosophy represents humanity's earliest organized intellectual pursuit. This discipline examines fundamental concepts related to ethics, justice, beauty, spirituality, and existence, aiming to deepen comprehension and formulate guiding principles. Philosophical inquiry establishes frameworks for evaluating evidence, develops logical approaches to resolving disputes, defines benchmarks for equitable societies, and devises methods for assessing theories and reasoning.
Engaging with philosophy expands and enriches liberal arts education while strengthening analytical skills applicable across disciplines. The program promotes a comprehensive liberal studies foundation, incorporating foreign language studies, while preparing students for advanced academic work and philosophical instruction. Philosophy's wide-ranging connections to other domains enables students to pursue diverse career paths including law, healthcare, business, or religious studies. Philosophy majors can choose from three specializations: General Philosophy, Global Philosophies and Religions, and Philosophy, Science and Technology. Many students pair their Philosophy degree with a second major, as these concentrations integrate seamlessly with other academic programs at CSU.
