The combined Philosophy & Religion major provides students with a structured approach to critically examining their thought processes and behaviors. Through philosophical training, students cultivate analytical skills and research methodologies that enable them to deeply investigate religious traditions and practices from multiple academic viewpoints.
Program Objectives
Graduates of the Philosophy & Religion program will achieve the following competencies:
Develop conceptual understanding and communication techniques necessary for thorough exploration of fundamental questions about truth, morality, and aesthetics.
Gain working knowledge of central inquiries across key philosophical disciplines (including moral/political philosophy, metaphysics/epistemology, and logic) while maintaining thoughtful analysis and dialogue on these subjects.
Acquire foundational knowledge of classical and modern philosophical texts, along with contemporary philosophical debates and literature.
Articulate personal perspectives with reasoned arguments while remaining receptive to opposing viewpoints and constructive criticism.
Obtain introductory understanding of various methodological approaches in religious studies and substantive knowledge about principal global faith traditions.
Develop familiarity with significant theoretical questions in the philosophy of religion.
