The Clark University Department of Sustainability and Social Justice provides certificate programs that examine both local and worldwide viewpoints to establish fair and just solutions for supporting displaced communities across North America, Europe, and other major refugee-hosting areas. Instead of concentrating exclusively on crisis response or global refugee policies, we maintain that grasping migration—whether voluntary or involuntary—demands a comparative, historically-informed methodology incorporating diverse stakeholder viewpoints.
Students thrive within Clark's vibrant, multicultural, international academic environment as they deepen their knowledge of displacement and forced migration, while examining the intricate social, political, economic, and environmental drivers behind population movements.
Our methodology emphasizes participation, community engagement, and refugee-focused initiatives. We center the lived experiences of impacted communities, including both mobile and established populations, while developing approaches to rebuild inclusive societies.
A primary emphasis of our work involves linking migration, forced displacement, and refugee research to discussions surrounding development and ecological transformation.
