The Master of Music in Performance program provides graduate-level training in classical instrumental and vocal performance. Performance students deepen their knowledge of Music History and Theory while taking specialized courses like Pedagogy, Literature, Chamber Music, Ensemble, Advanced Conducting, Opera Scenes, Performance Technique, and Performance Practice, along with private instruction. Annual masterclasses feature renowned artists. The program culminates with a public recital and abstract preparation.
Instrumental performance graduate students enjoy multiple performance chances each term, including participation in major ensembles and solo appearances. String players may audition for an honors string quartet, while all instrumentalists can compete to perform concertos with the CSUN Symphony through the Concerto Competition.
Vocal arts graduate students have diverse performance opportunities each semester. They may star in full operas performed in their original language, appear with the CSUN Symphony Orchestra in concert works, or perform as soloists in oratorios. CSUN vocalists frequently perform with prestigious off-campus organizations including the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Jubilee Singers, and Los Angeles Opera Chorus.
