The one-year performance certificate program offers intensive training in a chosen performance discipline. This curriculum blends individualized coaching, dynamic coursework, and hands-on learning to establish a comprehensive foundation in instrumental mastery. Students collaborate with Lamont School of Music's distinguished faculty, participating in ensemble performances while building professional skills for music careers.

Lamont's guitar department fosters complete musicianship through challenging yet supportive training. Students learn from acclaimed performers Jonathan Leathwood and Laura Husbands. Professor Leathwood stands out as one of the rare guitarists proficient on both six-string and ten-string instruments, blending contemporary and classical repertoire in his groundbreaking performances. An Alexander Technique instructor certified internationally, he also edits Soundboard Scholar, the sole English-language, peer-reviewed academic journal for guitar studies. Professor Husbands has earned first-place honors in eleven global competitions, rapidly establishing herself as a prominent performer and educator. She directs the Denver Guitar Festival and Competition, an annual event that attracts world-renowned artists to Lamont.
