The Master of Arts in Spanish requires completion of 33 units. CSUN's Spanish M.A. program provides students with adaptable scheduling options, including in-person, hybrid, and online classes across diverse subject areas: Peninsular literature and culture, Latin American literature and culture, linguistics, and interpretation. This program equips you for professional opportunities in language and literature studies, foreign language instruction, translation/interpretation, and other related fields. Many alumni continue their academic journey by pursuing doctoral degrees. The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures aims to develop globally competent individuals who can thrive both locally and internationally. Accordingly, the department provides extensive course offerings and programs in foreign languages, literatures, and cultural studies tailored for language majors/minors, liberal arts students, professionals seeking multilingual skills, and those wishing to explore their cultural heritage within our multicultural society.

Have a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
Be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all undergraduate units
All OFFICIAL transcripts for any college or university courses you have completed in original language of issue. Your records must include official verification of degree completion.
Official English translations of all academic records.
While your qualifications for entrance to CSUN are being evaluated and forwarded to the Department of Modern and Classical Languages (MCLL), prepare and submit the following documents (via email) to the Graduate Program Coordinator (all documents can be in English or Spanish):

- cover letter

- a representative writing sample (at least 5 pages)

- information about 1-3 recommenders, including name, title, and contact information (recommendation letters are optional)
