The Bachelor of Science in Physics program caters to students aiming to (1) enter physics-focused research and development careers in either industry or government sectors, or (2) pursue advanced studies in physics or allied fields. The program offers two distinct tracks: Option I (Physics) and Option II (Astrophysics).
Option I provides a comprehensive curriculum blending experimental and theoretical physics. Students can tailor this track toward engineering applications or adopt a more mathematically rigorous theoretical physics approach through elective course selections made in consultation with the department's undergraduate advisor. The Physics and Astronomy Department actively involves students in research initiatives, with numerous undergraduates and graduates gaining admission to Ph.D. programs at top-tier R1 research universities. The department specializes in three primary physics research areas: Astrophysics, Biophysics, and Condensed Matter Physics.
