Optics focuses on the study of light: its generation, transmission, and detection. This multidisciplinary field draws from physics, electrical engineering, chemistry, and materials science. Optical technologies are integral to daily life, from contact lenses to fiber-optic communications. Groundbreaking innovations such as lasers and holography have emerged from optical research, which continues to offer diverse modern research opportunities. The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester is seeking applicants for a junior tenure-track faculty position. We welcome exceptional candidates with a PhD in physics, optics, electrical engineering, or a related field, and strongly encourage applications from women and minorities. Selected candidates will be responsible for maintaining an active research program and providing instruction and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students. We are interested in applicants with innovative research backgrounds in all optics, photonics, and imaging areas, with particular emphasis on optical theory, materials, and physics.
