Alongside the B.S. Ed., students can pursue a B.A. or B.S. in their chosen field as undergraduates before entering the Graduate School for Master's-level teaching credentials. The College of Education offers Teach in 12, an accelerated one-year post-graduate certification program, alongside traditional certification pathways. Certification graduate credits may count toward a Master's in Secondary Education with supplementary coursework. Prospective Master's-level teacher candidates should reach out to the College of Education's advising office (OASIS) at 314-516-5937. Important: DESE mandates a 3.0 GPA in both discipline-specific and professional education courses, plus a 2.75 cumulative GPA for certification.
Physics explores the fundamental forces, particles, and resulting states of matter that shape our physical universe. UMSL's Physics and Astronomy Department equips undergraduates with comprehensive physics knowledge and vital experimental/theoretical skills for scientific practice. The BA program allows students to blend intensive physics study with liberal arts and language coursework, making it excellent preparation for science-related careers like science communication, policy, or patent law.
