Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) focuses on studying biological, chemical, and physical factors that impact both human health and the natural world. This program delivers a rigorous science-based curriculum with real-world applications to promote safer and healthier surroundings. Consequently, alumni pursue diverse, sought-after careers in fields like air and water quality, food safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous waste management, and radiation protection. They find employment across multiple sectors, including private industries (aerospace, biotech, food production), local and state agencies (health departments, Cal EPA), federal organizations (EPA, OSHA), unions, advocacy groups, and academic institutions.
The curriculum is carefully structured to equip students with job-ready skills. Many local employers—including numerous department alumni—actively recruit CSUN graduates. As one of the nation's largest programs in this field, the department boasts a vast professional network committed to safeguarding environmental quality, public health, and workplace safety.
The B.S. degree establishes the scientific and practical groundwork for an EOH career, qualifying graduates for well-compensated entry-level positions. The M.S. degree prepares students for advanced professional roles involving research, analysis, and leadership in EOH systems.
