The Bachelor of Music program offers two specializations: Composition and Commercial and Media Writing (both requiring an entrance audition). Final requirement: A 45-minute performance.
The Commercial and Media Writing track focuses mainly on musical scoring. While students study songcraft and vocal arrangements, the curriculum emphasizes instrumental composition and orchestration. Consequently, applicants need existing proficiency in classical or jazz performance on an instrument or voice.
Alumni from the music department hold successful careers globally, working as educators in schools and universities, certified music therapists, orchestra and band directors, published composers, acclaimed recording artists, performers with prestigious opera companies and symphonies, studio musicians, professional ensemble members, and professionals in Southern California's entertainment industry and beyond.
