The Deaf Studies major program has two main goals: (1) to provide foundational knowledge about Deaf culture and language, encompassing their historical background and societal interactions, and (2) to equip students for graduate studies or professional roles serving the Deaf community. CSUN stands out as one of the rare mainstream universities nationwide with a robust undergraduate Deaf Studies curriculum, consistently recognized for excellence in deaf-related education. Furthermore, Deaf Studies majors at CSUN enjoy exceptional benefits like joining student groups, engaging with over 200 Deaf/Hard of Hearing students on campus, accessing the largest deafness-related resource library in the western U.S., taking part in campus and community activities such as Deafestivals and ASL/Deaf theater performances, and gaining practical work experience while earning academic credit.
