The Deaf Studies major program has two main goals: (1) to provide foundational knowledge about Deaf culture and language, encompassing their historical background and societal interactions, and (2) to equip students for graduate studies or professional careers involving the Deaf community. CSUN stands out as one of the rare mainstream universities nationwide offering a complete undergraduate Deaf Studies curriculum, consistently recognized for excellence in deaf-related education. Furthermore, Deaf Studies students at CSUN enjoy exceptional benefits like joining student groups, engaging with over 200 Deaf/Hard of Hearing peers on campus, accessing the western U.S.'s largest deafness-related resource collection, taking part in campus and community activities such as Deafestivals and ASL/Deaf theater performances, and gaining practical work experience while earning academic credit.
