The Master of Arts (M.A.) program in Speech-Language Pathology at California State University Long Beach is a full-time, cohort-based curriculum spanning five consecutive semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring). This comprehensive program incorporates both academic coursework and practical experience, featuring dedicated semesters for school-based and medical/private practice internships.
Graduates who fulfill all academic requirements will receive an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. This degree enables candidates to pursue three professional credentials: ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence, California's Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential, and state licensure for Speech-Language Pathology practice.

In-depth understanding of speech, language, and communication disorders - including congenital, developmental, acquired, and neurogenic conditions affecting all age groups
Expertise in differential diagnostic techniques specific to speech-language pathology
Skills to apply evidence-based approaches when making ethical clinical judgments
Hands-on experience through 400 direct clinical hours treating diverse communication and swallowing disorders
Combined on-campus training and off-site internships in educational and healthcare environments to master clinical skills within professional practice boundaries
Proficiency in serving clients from varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Enhanced cultural awareness developed through graduate studies, clinical rotations, internships, and exchange programs
Required academic and clinical training for ASHA certification eligibility
