Brown University maintains a distinguished history of developing, supporting, and nurturing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary initiatives. The Graduate School welcomes students proposing academic projects that transcend traditional disciplinary lines and cannot be fulfilled through existing doctoral or Master's degree programs. Applicants may seek approval to undertake integrative graduate studies as Master's candidates. Admission procedures vary depending on whether the applicant is currently matriculated in another Brown degree program, as outlined in the Graduate School Handbook. Prospective students must submit a customized academic plan culminating in either a Master of Arts or Master of Science degree. Following Handbook specifications, documentation of faculty endorsement is mandatory. The Graduate Council evaluates all submitted materials before granting final approval.
