The English Department provides a graduate certificate program for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). This intensive 12-credit program consists of four courses, typically completed within three semesters. TESOL candidates engage in comprehensive studies covering linguistics, applied linguistics, and language teaching methods. The curriculum requires mastery of linguistic principles, English language structure, classroom teaching methodologies, and theories of second language acquisition. Note that the TESOL certificate does not qualify recipients to teach in Nebraska's public school system. This academic credential is designed for currently certified educators, those pursuing teaching opportunities outside public schools, and professionals working with non-native English speakers.
