The Ph.D. program in Music and Multimedia Composition challenges students to create, examine, and present innovative works incorporating electronic music, acoustic composition, and sound alongside video, performance art, installations, and text. Participants engage in deep exploration of cultural, theoretical, technical, and aesthetic aspects of multimedia production while working alongside faculty specializing in interactive audiovisual media, sound art, instrument creation, and acoustic composition. This program embraces diverse artistic approaches, encouraging students to enhance both their creative processes and technical skills to drive artistic breakthroughs. Beyond faculty guidance, students have opportunities to work with professional performance groups and guest artists featured at Brown University.
Graduates of non-U.S. colleges and universities who have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree may apply for admission to the Brown University Graduate School.
Regarding TOEFL, the recommended minimum score for admission consideration is 577 on the paper-based test and 90 on the Internet-based test. For IELTS, the recommended minimum overall band score is 7.
