Music flourishes at Brandeis University. Our distinguished faculty includes award-winning composers, scholars, performers, and conductors. Students can pursue either a one-year MA or a two-year MFA in composition and theory. Both programs focus on mastering compositional techniques while providing foundational training in music theory, analysis, and electro-acoustic studies.
The accelerated MA program is ideal for those seeking graduate-level education without a long-term commitment. For deeper exploration, the MFA program involves extended study culminating in an original composition thesis.
Through New Music Brandeis, our contemporary concert series, students can have their works performed, recorded, and featured alongside faculty and alumni compositions. Additional opportunities include readings by the renowned Lydian String Quartet and visiting ensembles hosted by our music department.
