The Master of Music with a specialization in composition is an intensive professional program designed for exceptional students working in acoustic, electronic, and multimedia composition. Participants cultivate their unique artistic voices while concentrating on their preferred creative focus, free from stylistic constraints, through rigorous coursework and one-on-one faculty mentorship.
Composition students enjoy numerous performance possibilities, such as orchestral readings by the Symphony Orchestra and guest ensembles, year-long collaborations with ASU's Wind Ensembles and Philharmonia Orchestra, commissioned works for the PRISMS contemporary music festival, and creative partnerships with fellow students across performance, animation, film, and dance disciplines.
This program offers deep faculty engagement and the chance to master sophisticated compositional methods drawn from diverse stylistic traditions, all while encouraging each student's individual creative vision. Through collaborations with music researchers, theorists, performers, educators, and fellow composers, students build a comprehensive foundation for successful careers in advanced musical practice.
