The Master of Music (M.M.) program provides specialized tracks in composition, conducting, music theory, musicology (each requiring 30 credit hours), pedagogy (36 credit hours), and performance (32 credit hours). This graduate degree requires at least 30 credit hours of coursework, with performance majors presenting recitals, musicology and theory students completing a thesis, and composition students creating an original work. Musicology students must show proficiency in a foreign language before graduating. The pedagogy track (for strings or keyboard) offers a 36-credit non-thesis option. Performance majors (jazz, keyboard, collaborative piano, strings, voice, or winds/percussion) complete a 32-credit program featuring two evaluated public recitals. Conducting students (choral, orchestral, or wind) may choose between two performances or one performance accompanied by a supporting paper.
