The University of Texas at Arlington provides a Master of Music degree specializing in Jazz Composition. This program helps students achieve expertise in composing for diverse musical groups, ranging from small combos to full ensembles. The curriculum offers adaptability, enabling students to concentrate on traditional big band arrangements, small group compositions, studio orchestra works, or contemporary cross-genre approaches. Students benefit from hearing their pieces performed by UT Arlington's jazz and classical groups. A collaborative relationship with the American Jazz Composers Orchestra, a leading DFW-area big band, creates chances for professional showcases of student compositions. Similar to the Jazz Performance MM, graduates of the Jazz Composition program qualify to instruct at community colleges and certain universities.

Please do not attach the files in the email.
A performance audition is also required on your primary jazz instrument. Applicants should prepare two jazz pieces in contrasting styles and tempos, with at least one jazz standard included. A pianist will be available to accompany you, or you may arrange for your own accompaniment (such as a play-along recording).
