In light of the fast-evolving perspectives on human identity and lived experiences, coupled with decades of growing research, women's, gender, and sexuality studies stands out as one of the most vibrant and pertinent academic disciplines. Brandeis University's Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program (WGS) serves as a hub for scholarly inquiry, learning, activism, and initiatives that deepen our grasp of how gender and sexuality interact with race, socioeconomic status, cultural background, religious beliefs, physical ability, and other factors.
By choosing to major or minor in this field, you'll join a diverse, curious, and academically rigorous community exploring feminist theories, gender and sexuality concepts, historical and contemporary representations of women's experiences, and global social movements. The program also offers a sexuality and queer studies (SQS) minor, which falls under WGS.
Graduates with a WGS or SQS degree gain valuable preparation for careers spanning law, healthcare, public health, social services, policy-making, advocacy, and academia. Many alumni also continue their education through advanced degrees in law, social work, and various other disciplines.
