The Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program provides students with a theoretical foundation for examining how gender is constructed and analyzing women's historical, economic, political, social, and cultural experiences. This interdisciplinary program integrates perspectives from the Social Sciences, Humanities, and Sciences. Founded in 1978, Dartmouth's Women's Studies Program was the first of its kind among formerly all-male Ivy League institutions. Students can pursue Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies as a major, minor, or modified major. Alumni frequently credit the program's critical thinking skills with helping them excel in diverse careers and graduate studies. The curriculum includes interdisciplinary courses along with numerous affiliated courses from other departments that focus on gender or women's issues. The Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Faculty Steering Committee oversees the major program.
