This dual-degree program is tailored for students seeking deep expertise in ancient philosophy while complementing their Philosophy PhD with Classical Studies specialization. Participants must meet standard requirements for both degrees, with opportunities to focus on ancient philosophy, ancient Greek/Latin languages, and Greek/Roman literary history. Students primarily interested in Philosophy should apply directly to the Philosophy PhD program.

Upon completing all requirements, graduates earn both a standard Philosophy PhD and a Classical Studies MA. The Philosophy portion provides specialized knowledge of ancient philosophy, while the Classical Studies component enriches textual interpretation through examination of literary styles, genres, and important historical, poetic, rhetorical, religious, and scientific contexts.
