The Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology program features two specialized paths: Historical Musicology or Ethnomusicology, along with an option to combine both disciplines. This program is designed for individuals aiming for academic careers in research and teaching at universities, colleges, or conservatories.
Our graduate studies equip students with comprehensive disciplinary knowledge, advanced theoretical frameworks, diverse methodologies, and global perspectives to cultivate top-tier music scholars. Eligible students (whether entering with a Bachelor's or Master's degree) may receive up to 5 years of full financial support, along with a flexible curriculum that includes a dual focus in Musicology and Ethnomusicology.
The program's adaptable structure provides both comprehensive coverage and specialized depth, making it equally valuable for those pursuing leadership roles in arts administration and the music business, as well as for accomplished performer-scholars, conductors, and educators. Applicants typically hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in music, with experience in musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory, composition, or performance.
