This bachelor's-to-master's program will allow certain Boston University SHA undergraduates a direct pathway to enroll in the Master of Arts in Gastronomy at Metropolitan College (MET) and complete the degree requirements in two terms of full-time study.
Specifically, any SHA student who completes the following required courses:
SHA HF 532 Hospitality Leadership (4 units)
SHA HF 560 Hospitality Strategic Marketing (4 units)
and graduates with an overall GPA of 3.0 or better can, upon graduation, apply to the Master of Arts in Gastronomy program at Metropolitan College as a bachelor's-to-master's student. The 8 units from these two courses will reduce the units needed to earn the master's degree. With this start, the bachelor's-to-master's student could complete the remaining 8 courses (32 units) needed for the master's degree in just two terms. SHA students should apply during the junior year.
Bachelor's-to-master's programs are linked bachelor's and master's degree programs in which the two degrees are conferred sequentially. This bachelor's-to-master's program allows students to apply a maximum of 8 units from their undergraduate degree toward the associated master's degree. The units applied toward the master's degree must be at the 500 level or above.
Students must apply to bachelor's-to-master's programs before the conferral of the bachelor's degree. Typically, students apply to the BS in Hospitality Management/MA in Gastronomy bachelor's-to-master's program in their junior year. Students in the BS in Hospitality Management/MA in Gastronomy bachelor's-to-master's program must complete at least 24 units while enrolled as a graduate student. Students should consult with the Financial Assistance office to learn how entrance into the bachelor's-to-master's program might impact their financial aid.
Apply as a first-year student if you are currently in your last year of high school, have completed high school, are a GED recipient, or have completed a high school equivalency exam. If you are currently in high school and are part of a dual enrollment program, you should also apply as a first-year student.
