You can find the degree requirements here, along with the primary reading list for the program and an additional reading list for historical context. To earn an M.A. in Classics, students must complete ten graduate-level courses (30 credits) in Greek and Latin, finish an independent reading list, demonstrate competency in a modern foreign language (typically French or German), and pass comprehensive written and oral exams. Graduate students usually have access to six advanced language courses annually. More course options may be available through the Boston-area consortium, and with department approval, students may enroll in classical civilization courses at BC. We encourage students to refine their seminar papers into conference presentations.
Students must have a bachelor's degree and undergraduate course work in calculus, physics, biochemistry, biology and chemistry, including organic chemistry. Applicants whose native language is not English must achieve a TOEFL score of 600 or better (paper-based test), or 250 or better in (computer-based test).
