Classics explores the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome in their entirety: their languages (Greek and Latin), literary works and myths, historical events, philosophical ideas, and artistic/archaeological remains. This field connects us to our origins while illuminating contemporary society. Modern concepts like citizenship, migration, democratic systems, social movements, aesthetics, and relationships all trace back to ancient traditions and societal structures.

As an interdisciplinary field, Classics at UCSB offers an engaging, intellectually stimulating education that develops valuable professional abilities.
