The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is an on-campus program designed for aspiring educators seeking their initial teaching credentials. Following Baylor's renowned teacher-training approach, the MAT delivers comprehensive preparation with extensive hands-on classroom experiences supervised by faculty. This program is particularly suited for Baylor graduates and alumni from other institutions who hold a bachelor's degree or have substantial coursework in relevant subject areas, while also preparing candidates for their first teaching certification. Additional certification options for different grade levels are offered as well. For complete enrollment in the program, candidates must gain acceptance from both the Baylor Graduate School and the School of Education's MAT program. Full admission to the School of Education's Educator Preparation Program additionally requires a passing score on the TExES content examination (the state's certification test).
