The Baylor University Department of Sociology is renowned for its excellence in educating sociologists specializing in religious studies. Our program integrates specialized seminars with opportunities for self-directed research. Core seminar courses provide foundational knowledge in religious sociology theory. All enrolled students receive comprehensive training in sophisticated quantitative data analysis and management, complemented by a mandatory research methods course focused on religious sociology data. Students can select from six optional seminars covering diverse subjects like faith practices, religion's intersection with family life, religious institutions, unconventional religious behaviors, and the interplay of race/gender with religion. We emphasize experiential learning, which is why our financial support structures prioritize giving students ample time to focus on their individual research projects.
