Ball State's Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program with a ceramics specialization delivers thorough instruction in clay artistry, focusing on intricate vessel creation, figurative sculpting, glaze development, and diverse firing techniques. Our ceramics track provides an expansive curriculum covering various aspects of ceramic arts. The studio setting integrates instruction on both functional ware aesthetics—such as shape and surface decoration—with sculptural approaches. To cultivate knowledge of both traditional and modern ceramic methods, students participate in multiple enrichment opportunities like guest artist lectures, national conference participation, museum visits, and studio/gallery tours. The program supports applications for nationwide ceramic artist residencies. We actively collaborate with regional art communities through pottery sales, event volunteering, exhibition submissions, and public workshops plus philanthropic initiatives.
