These programs equip students for dental, medical, and optometry school admissions while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in one of several available majors. The rigorous requirements demand exceptional academic ability and achievement.
At Auburn University, students fulfill these prerequisites by completing a core curriculum outlined in the program model while selecting a major. Since course prerequisites differ across institutions, students should consult with COSAM's pre-health advisors for specific requirements. The curriculum model includes most prerequisite courses for U.S. dental, medical, and optometry schools, whether mandatory or elective. While students may pursue majors in other colleges, freshmen and sophomores should meet with COSAM's Pre-Health Counseling Specialist to enhance their competitiveness as applicants.
During junior year, students must attend essential application workshops hosted by COSAM's PPAC Chair each October. Pre-dental, pre-medical, and pre-optometry students should complete their respective admission tests (DAT, MCAT, or OAT) at least one year before professional school enrollment and submit applications to their chosen institutions during this period.
