The MFA in Art with a Digital Technology concentration merges technological innovation with artistic vision, catering to students skilled in both areas. This interdisciplinary program is jointly offered by the School of Art and the School of Arts, Media and Engineering. The School of Art delivers advanced coursework in digital sound, visual media, photographic arts, printmaking, interactive installations, and 3D fabrication. Meanwhile, the School of Arts, Media and Engineering offers graduate studies in interactive systems, activity recognition, human perception, coding, and immersive media environments.

This program equips artists with modern art fundamentals through visiting artist lectures, career development sessions, teaching experiences, and educational methodology training. It cultivates international perspectives, community involvement, ethical practice, and cooperative initiatives. The curriculum stimulates interdisciplinary dialogue across diverse domains such as visual representation, cultural identity, emerging technologies, material exploration, environmental studies, and scientific inquiry.

Participants establish digital media proficiency while gaining practical experience in developing innovative digital solutions. They collaborate with instructors to deepen understanding, enhance technical abilities, and work with communities to conduct meaningful research while maintaining enduring artistic careers. Students enjoy premium studio facilities at Grant Street Studios, situated in Phoenix's cultural district, featuring shared woodworking areas, printmaking equipment, photographic darkrooms, ceramic firing stations, digital workstations, and additive manufacturing labs.

The MFA program concludes with an individual thesis showcase in one of the School of Art's four exhibition spaces. Previous student projects can be viewed on the School's online exhibition platform.

As part of a top-tier research university, students leverage extensive academic resources. The program fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration with faculty and leading researchers throughout ASU. Participants also engage with Phoenix's thriving arts scene and nearby cultural centers in Los Angeles, Santa Fe, and Denver. The curriculum is enriched by internship opportunities with various arts institutions. Special programs provide unique professional development chances to interact with established artists and curators. The School's galleries, Ceramics Research Center, and ASU Art Museum host regular public exhibitions and guest lectures, enabling students to expand their contemporary art knowledge while establishing professional connections.

This MFA program prioritizes cooperative learning and hands-on experiences, granting access to specialized resources that help students explore how historical contexts influence modern visual interpretation.
