The three-year Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Art combines studio practice with research, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches, community involvement, and career growth. Every MFA student receives a private studio. Graduate Assistantships in teaching, research, and professional development offer unique chances to participate in innovative research, shape curriculum, oversee studio facilities, and collaborate with community partners and campus departments. The program concludes with each MFA student presenting a public thesis exhibition.
The Art Department partners with UNLV's Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, campus galleries, and the College of Fine Arts through academic and public initiatives. The college fosters innovation across creative fields like art, design, dance, film, theater, music, architecture, and more. Students collaborate with a diverse faculty working in various mediums, from traditional practices like painting and ceramics to digital art and performance. The department frequently hosts guest lecturers and resident artists. Interaction with faculty, fellow students, and Las Vegas' arts scene provides a dynamic setting for MFA students to pursue their creative research.
