Acquire the knowledge and hands-on training required to pursue careers as a park ranger, sports programmer, event coordinator, recreation manager, or other roles dedicated to enhancing people's quality of life. The Bachelor of Science in parks, recreation, and sport management offers an interdisciplinary approach to managing parks, protected areas, community recreation services, and sports/event operations. This field originated from the youth development and recreation movements of the late 1800s.
Program participants study wilderness conservation, environmental communication, park administration, policy development, program assessment, and sports/recreation planning. Through coursework and fieldwork, students combine natural sciences, social sciences, and management principles to make sound decisions for both nature-based and community recreation services.
An essential internship provides real-world experience in parks and recreation careers.
This program holds accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions.
