Recognized twice with the American Therapeutic Recreation Association's Excellence in Education Award, UNH's Therapeutic Recreation (TR) program equips students for professional achievement across all facets of the field. Alumni complete their studies ready to sit for the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist examination, consistently outperforming national pass rate averages. Through an exclusive collaboration with Northeast Passage, learners gain practical experience with one of the country's most respected TR organizations while mastering a comprehensive curriculum that explores every dimension of therapeutic recreation practice.
At its core, therapeutic recreation operates on the principle that intentional activities can enhance quality of life for individuals of any age confronting physical, psychological, cognitive, or emotional difficulties. Professionals in this fulfilling career assist others through diverse recreational interventions ranging from wilderness adventures and athletic programs to creative arts, movement therapy, and social gatherings. UNH's therapeutic recreation degree provides the foundation for careers in medical centers, rehab clinics, senior care communities, educational settings, behavioral health services, and community recreation programs serving people with disabilities across all age groups.
Each student must have their official high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
