Every single moment, each passing day, and through every individual, teachers spark intellectual curiosity and build stronger communities. Get ready to teach students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Combining academic studies with hands-on internships and teaching residencies, this program enables you to earn your teaching certification upon graduation and launch a career in the ever-growing education sector. The Bachelor of Arts in Education with an elementary education focus equips future teachers to work with K-8 students in school environments, culminating in Arizona state certification for elementary education.
Participants gain a solid foundation in subject matter while learning cutting-edge research and proven methods from nationally acclaimed faculty, alongside practical professional training. The curriculum also emphasizes incorporating technology into modern teaching approaches.
Elementary education certification candidates engage in clinical experiences throughout their junior and senior years. Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College employs a collaborative model for teacher development, where students undertake teaching internships and residencies alongside peers while receiving mentorship from ASU professors and experienced certified educators. These team-based field experiences prepare future teachers to collaborate effectively while meeting students' academic and emotional needs, bridging the gap between theory and classroom application.
The program includes sequential internships followed by an intensive full-semester teaching residency. Under the guidance of mentor teachers and university faculty, students implement their coursework knowledge in real classroom settings.
Upon completion, graduates qualify for K-8 elementary teaching certification. Aspiring public school teachers must pass Arizona's educator examinations (either the National Evaluation Series or Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments) to become state-certified educators.
