Choosing the Special Education K-12 Emotional Impairment Endorsement - Elementary Major leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and qualifies you for an elementary teaching certification with an Emotional Impairment (SE) specialization. This program equips you to effectively educate elementary students and adolescents with emotional challenges across K-12 environments, encompassing both day programs and residential treatment facilities. You'll acquire expertise in developing, executing, and tracking academic, behavioral, and mental health strategies that support students with various behavioral difficulties in achieving academic success and preparing for independent adulthood. Additionally, you'll gain certification to teach all subjects in kindergarten through fifth grade, as well as self-contained classrooms for grades 6-8. Throughout this program, you'll have access to the full range of resources provided by the College of Education, including academic advising, scholarship opportunities, and engagement in activities through both the Special Education department (your primary academic home) and the Department of Teacher Education.

Meet the minimum requirement of 2.0 cumulative High School Grade Point Average or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for consideration.
EMU uses a test-optional admissions model for first-year admission.
A student with a cumulative high school GPA of 2.75 or higher will not be required to submit a standardized test score.
A student with a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5-2.74 will be considered test-optional. Upon review of application and academic history, standardized test scores may be requested if required.
At student with a cumulative high school of 2.49 and below will be required to submit a test score.
