Transform young lives by working with children who have diverse learning needs while qualifying for dual teaching certifications. You'll play a pivotal role in children's early development, establishing crucial building blocks for their educational journey. The Bachelor of Arts in Education program specializing in early childhood education and special education qualifies graduates for dual certification covering both standard early childhood education and special education (birth through age 8).
This curriculum emphasizes developmental psychology, evidence-based teaching methods for young learners, and techniques for evaluating and tracking progress in children with and without special needs. Students learn to partner effectively with families to foster each child's development and learning.
The program incorporates substantial hands-on training to ensure graduates are classroom-ready. Before undertaking a full-time teaching residency, students complete intensive internships. Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College offers a unique teacher preparation model that combines supervised field experiences with mentorship from faculty and expert educators. These professional opportunities equip graduates to collaborate with peers in addressing both academic and social-emotional learning objectives.
Upon completion, graduates qualify for ASU's institutional recommendation for Arizona teaching credentials in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education, plus a Structured English Immersion endorsement (preK-12) from the Arizona Department of Education. Teaching in Arizona public schools requires passing either the National Evaluation Series or Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments examinations.
