This MA program invites you to examine medical advancements through both theoretical and practical lenses, while situating them within wider societal and cultural contexts. You'll utilize diverse historical resources for medical research, including clinical documents, personal journals, patient files, public health records, health education materials, and visual archives. Our expert faculty deliver courses from multiple perspectives, offering comprehensive exposure to various analytical frameworks.
The first term's foundational course, Themes and Methods in Medical History, provides an overview of key historical methodologies and scholarly discussions in medical history spanning from early modern times to the present day. This module explores the development of medical concepts, organizations, and methodologies; public reception of innovative treatments; the organization of healthcare systems and professional medical communities; and the scientific, social, and cultural influences shaping medical practices.
