The MRes History is a postgraduate research program positioned between our MA offerings and PhD studies. This course provides advanced historical research methodologies and conceptual tools necessary for undertaking a substantial independent research project. At its core is a 30,000-word dissertation that showcases the sophisticated research abilities developed through two key modules.
These foundational modules enhance your analytical and project management capabilities. The first focuses on crafting an extensive literature review to deepen your critical understanding of your research area, while the second guides you in developing a comprehensive research proposal. You'll acquire practical historical competencies such as sourcing archival materials, evaluating primary and secondary sources, and systematically organizing historical data. Taught by research-active scholars employing diverse methodological and theoretical perspectives, these modules provide expert guidance. You'll collaborate with a distinguished supervisor in your chosen field and have opportunities to participate in events for our dynamic MPhil/PhD community, expanding your academic network.
