Building on Sussex's pioneering legacy in this academic discipline, we merge time-honored traditions with support for innovative research areas. Our faculty provides specialized supervision in: British political philosophy (1500-1900), Renaissance intellectual developments, Scottish Enlightenment and 18th-century political theory, plus 19th-century European political ideas. Exceptional proposals in related fields are encouraged, particularly those aligning with Sussex's distinctive interdisciplinary methodology that bridges history, literature, philosophy, classical studies, political science, economics, and religious studies.
