Lincoln's History MPhil/PhD program provides in-depth research possibilities spanning diverse historical eras and fields. Students can engage with experts specializing in Roman studies, medieval history, gender studies, 19th-century cultural history, British political developments, and the history of science, medicine, and veterinary practices. Regular research seminars create a dynamic forum for exchanging ideas and examining theoretical frameworks alongside peers, faculty, and guest scholars. The program maintains close connections with the Schools of Film and Media, English and Journalism, and Fine and Performing Arts, fostering an interdisciplinary approach that encourages collaboration on varied subjects. The MPhil/PhD structure centers on guided independent research, allowing candidates to focus on a self-selected topic throughout their studies. Participants must prepare written submissions for supervisor review, followed by discussions to plan subsequent research phases. Given the autonomous nature of postgraduate research, students dedicate substantial time to self-directed study. Full-time researchers have monthly supervisory meetings, while part-time candidates meet bi-monthly with their academic advisors.
