The History Department boasts a wide range of specialized knowledge and professional backgrounds among its approximately forty full-time faculty members. Combined with an active research environment featuring seminars and conferences, this makes Warwick one of the UK's top institutions for historical research. In the 2021 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey, our department scored 93% in overall satisfaction, ranking among the nation's highest.
Typically, PhD candidates finish their degrees in three to four years of full-time study, or five to six years part-time. As a research student, you'll work closely with your supervisor(s), meeting regularly to review your progress and develop a tailored plan for reading, research, and writing.
The Department, Arts Faculty, and Graduate School offer supplementary assistance and training, including English language support for international PhD candidates. History students also benefit from various reading groups, seminars, workshops, and conferences. The University Library's new Research Exchange provides postgraduate researchers with cutting-edge conference and study facilities.
