Our history department ranks among the UK's most extensive and varied, providing specialized guidance across numerous fields spanning different regions and eras - from America's Reconstruction South to colonial Tahiti, and from ancient Roman times to modern Britain.
Globally recognized research groups focus on areas including Holocaust and genocide studies, gender history through material culture, Public History, South Asian and Islamic World studies, early Christianity and Late Antiquity research, plus Byzantine and Crusade-era scholarship.
Our graduate community mirrors our academic diversity, with numerous international and non-traditional students. We prioritize public outreach, with faculty frequently appearing on broadcast media and publishing for general audiences. Collaborative ties with major institutions like the British Museum, Museum of London, Kew Gardens, and Imperial War Museum ensure our work reaches broader audiences.
Program length: 3 years full-time or 5 years part-time
