By merging American Studies with Film Studies, you'll examine diverse fascinating subjects—from the origins of celebrity culture to modern Hollywood hits.

As you study the nation that significantly shaped the 20th and 21st centuries, you'll gain insights into today's world. Through analyzing various films, you'll discover how cinema entertains, educates, and impacts viewers. You'll explore international film traditions, challenge portrayals of gender, race, and sexuality in movies, and examine mainstream genres.

Our dedicated and enthusiastic instructors will support you throughout your degree. Customizable course options let you focus on what excites you most. Additionally, a year abroad lets you not just learn about America but live it firsthand. We're honored to collaborate with esteemed U.S. institutions like UC Berkeley and Georgetown.
Your third year involves studying at one of our partner campuses in the U.S. or Canada. Our partner schools showcase all aspects of American life, including:

UC Berkeley and UCLA
Tulane University in New Orleans and the University of North Carolina
Georgetown University and George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Whether your passion lies in Indigenous cultures, the Civil Rights era, or American modernist literature, Sussex provides an exceptional North American academic experience.
